Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026
We collect as little as possible, and nothing personally identifiable by default.
What we collect
OpenGems · SF Rent does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email, or location. The listings you see are public records, not information about you.
If we enable analytics, it is anonymous and aggregate (e.g. which pages are viewed), measured with a privacy-respecting tool that does not fingerprint individuals.
Cookies and advertising
We do not set first-party tracking cookies. If advertising is enabled, the ad network may set its own cookies subject to its own policy and consent mechanisms. We never sell or share personal data — we have none to sell.
The underlying data
The rental figures come from the City of San Francisco's public rental housing inventory, which is already anonymized: addresses are reported at block level (e.g. "300 Block of Valencia St"), with no tenant names or unit numbers. See Data & methodology.
Automatic data refresh
OpenGems · SF Rent updates its listing data automatically, once every hour on the hour (UTC) — no action is needed from you. Each refresh fetches the latest public dataset from the City of San Francisco and recomputes any saved searches. Refreshes involve no user data, because we collect none.
Maps
Listing cards and detail views can show map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Your browser requests those images directly from OpenStreetMap's servers, so OpenStreetMap may see technical request data such as your IP address and browser information, subject to its privacy policy. Map locations are block-level approximations: the underlying data is anonymized at the block level by the publishing government agency.
Third-party links
This site links to external government open-data portals. Those pages are governed by their own policies.
